Mystic Pizza (3 stars)
Mystic Pizza is your run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. It stars Annabeth Gish and Julia Roberts as sisters Kat and Daisy who, along with their friend Jojo (played by Lili Taylor), work at a small pizza place in Mystic, CT. The story follows the three young women through each of their own love stories. Kat falls in love with the father of the young girl she's been baby sitting, and he appears to return the feelings (or perhaps he's just lonely because his wife's in England). Daisy is swept off her feet by the son of one of the richest families in Connecticut (but is he just slumming with the townie). Jojo is trying to decide if she should marry her long-time boyfriend Bill (the movie opens with Jojo walking out on the first attempt).
I picked the movie largely in part because of the cast (I've always had a soft spot for Julia), and wasn't expecting too much. In that regard it delivered. The plot "twists" were a little too transparent and in the end I felt that Jojo was the only character that had any real growth as a character at the end of the movie. This is only something I would suggest for those that like romantic comedies (of which I'm not a big fan).
